How the outer "WHITE SHIELD" works:

 

1. Pathogen Trapping 
The proprietary outer coating of the mask that helps to trap airborne particles, AND is coated with a special hydrophilic plastic that allows increased permeation (diffusion) of liquids. Virus-laden droplets which contact the outer surface of the mask are rapidly absorbed and trapped in the low pH outer coating where they are quickly neutralised, instead of remaining on the surface of the mask.
2. Pathogen Inactivation
The polymerised outer coating of the mask is also acidic – creating a localised low pH environment (e.g., ca pH 2.8 to pH 5) within the outer layer. Virus-laden droplets absorbed into the mask are quickly neutralised. The mechanism of action is that the low pH causes non-specific denaturation (structural changes) of viral proteins.
3. Effective and Safe
The polymerised outer coating does not restrict airflow and is safe. It is formulated from a combination of commonly used food additives – listed for use by both the FDA and European regulatory agencies.

How the inner "BLUE SHIELD" works:

The active "WHITE SHIELD" proprietary outer layer:
Coated with a special hydrophilic plastic that rapidly absorbs infectious droplets into and away from the outer surface of the mask. Viruses are rapidly inactivated in the outer layer by exposure to the low pH environment which causes structural rearrangement of lipids and other structures, resulting in spontaneous denaturation.

The active "BLUE SHIELD" proprietary inner layer:
Positively charged divalent copper/zinc metal ions attach to influenza viruses by binding negatively-charged groups (e.g., carboxyl/sulfhydryl) present on all viruses. This effect is known as ionic mimicry.

Influenza viruses are rapidly inactivated because (i) structures are damaged, such as lipid envelopes and nucleic acids, and (ii) biomolecules are denatured, such as proteins, lipids and enzymes. The toxic effect of metal ions on pathogens is known as the Oligodynamic Effect.

The special hydrophilic plastic coating and the anti-microbial inner layer do not restrict airflow and are totally safe. The outer “WHITE SHIELD” is formulated from a combination of commonly used food additives – approved for use as such by both the FDA and European regulatory agencies. The inner “BLUE SHIELD” layer uses ingredients that are approved by the FDA for biomedical use. Unlike silver which is not tolerated by the human body, or iodine which can cause severe respiratory and cardiac complications, copper and zinc are essential minerals necessary for human life and good health.

A Closer Look: how the "BLUE SHIELD" inner layer works:

 1. Molecular Mimicry

Viruses bind to human cells through glycoprotein receptors on the cell membrane surface. Many viruses, including influenza viruses, specifically bind to sialic acid linked carbohydrates on the cell membrane receptor. A binding agent in the inner active layer mimics the sialic acid which influenza viruses recognize and bind. This mechanism is referred to as ‘molecular mimicry.’

2. Molecular Trap

Once attached, the microbes are locked onto a special binding agent.

3. Molecular Kill

The metal ions copper and zinc and low pH rapidly inactivate the microbes by causing denaturation (structural changes) of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids.
